Welcome to Reflections! Please make yourself comfortable and come as often as you like. For a long while now, I have wanted to design a space where I could share my passion for creating beautiful, meaningful, functional homes. The image of a Salon comes to mind; a space where people come to exchange ideas, refine their tastes, and expand their knowledge about the power of place. If you are passionate about feeling more alive and more at home wherever you find yourself, this will be an exciting gathering of hearts and minds. It would be so fun to have you join me in dialog.
Consider this a virtual living room with a rotating gallery and menu of topics for consideration. This is where I will share my story, my musings, and my truth about how our internal and external worlds reflect each other. I will show you what I mean by curating interiors. You will find inspiration from the design industry, feng shui practices, self-actualization circles, and more. It will be about our homes, lives, and communities, but also about our bodies, minds, and spirits. We’ll discuss creating beauty or simply reconnecting to it. There will be practical tips for partnering with our homes to empower ourselves and enhance our wellbeing. A consciously curated home does more than look pretty. It impacts how we feel, the energy we have, and the actions we take.
We’re all here for a reason. We all matter and make a contribution to our families, our workplaces, and our communities. Every thought we have, every action we take has a ripple effect. How would it feel if we allowed our homes to be our partners and catalysts in becoming the best version of ourselves?
The dictionary defines curate as follows: select, organize, and look after items in a collection. So what do we collect? Furniture, art, books, music, wine, clothing, accessories, coins, bumper stickers, and the list goes on, right? These are examples of conscious collections. We have chosen the items on purpose and we find beauty, meaning, purpose, and enjoyment in having them around us. If we are really honest, most of us have unconscious collections too—the detritus of the days, weeks, even years that we don’t have the physical, mental, or emotional capacity to organize and look after. Everything that surrounds us pulls at us in some way. It ignites one or more of our senses and creates a thought. So inadvertently, we are collecting thoughts too. Thoughts become beliefs and beliefs influence how we show up in the world. Our inner world is reflected out into our physical environment. Our physical environment can also help organize and cultivate our inner landscape (our mind!) It’s a feedback loop. Think of the opportunity this affords no matter what your budget. It’s really not about how much money you have to spend; it’s about feeling at home.
If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the house. If there is harmony in the house, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
Chinese Proverb
I won’t attempt to improve on the articulation of my favorite proverb. But I will spend a lifetime reading between the lines and trying to fill in the gaps to understand how we can bring about more peace in the world one consciously curated space (or soul) at a time. Are you with me?
